SNN (ScrollingNetworkNews) ✿ ✿ Our Mel and Sydney returned to their nesting box with plenty of bonding occurring..but after 2.5 months of Sydney in the box from Dec 2013 to mid Feb 2014, the lack of prey gifts from Mel ( perhaps due to the severe and historic drought underway in California)and they have forgone the nesting process this year as many other raptors ✿ Compared to other owls of similar size, the Barn Owl has a much higher metabolic rate, requiring relatively more food. Pound for pound, Barn Owls consume more rodents – often regarded as pests by humans – than possibly any other creature. ✿ We remind viewers that sometimes owlets may not survive - the parents will dispose of things in "The Owl Way" -viewer discretion is advised, this is nature and the "Owl way". ✿ ~ ✿ “Animals, like us, are living souls. Adventures with Mel and Syd

Mel arrived with a med sized (small gopher or large mouse) treat at 8:30pm last night and Adelaide was quick to get it. Down the hatch it went.

Sydney stepped out many times last night, in one hour she went out 4 times.

Adi and Hunter cuddle and keep each other warm when Sydney leaves on her flyabouts.
Treat #2 at 10:18 pm, and again Adi gets the small slider mouse.

Mel finds it hard to surf with Sydney in that corner and by the wall. Its the thought that counts (wink)
Adi gulping down the treat and growing at the same time (how is that possible)
A total of 4 treats last night. Treat 3 & 4 was shared between the owlets and Sydney made sure she too got some bites. Hunter got a huge portion of treat 3 and soon fell into a food coma. Adi got the end of it and again gulped it down (burp!!!)

Adelaide the Cleaner = Shared treat and Adi cleans up at the end.

Loud rasping has began with the owlets when food is brought in.

Fan favorite shot of the day goes to our very own moderator sunza. She was up early, turned on her M&S cam and got this cute picture of Adi and Hunter. Sweet! (◠‿◠)
