SNN (ScrollingNetworkNews) ✿ ✿ Our Mel and Sydney returned to their nesting box with plenty of bonding occurring..but after 2.5 months of Sydney in the box from Dec 2013 to mid Feb 2014, the lack of prey gifts from Mel ( perhaps due to the severe and historic drought underway in California)and they have forgone the nesting process this year as many other raptors ✿ Compared to other owls of similar size, the Barn Owl has a much higher metabolic rate, requiring relatively more food. Pound for pound, Barn Owls consume more rodents – often regarded as pests by humans – than possibly any other creature. ✿ We remind viewers that sometimes owlets may not survive - the parents will dispose of things in "The Owl Way" -viewer discretion is advised, this is nature and the "Owl way". ✿ ~ ✿ “Animals, like us, are living souls. They are not things. They are not objects. Neither are they human. Yet they mourn. They love. They dance. They suffer. They know the peaks and chasms of being.” ― Gary Kowalski, The Souls of Animals ✿ Each species is a masterpiece, a creation assembled with extreme care and genius." ~ E.O. Wilson

Adventures with Mel and Syd

Hunter is continuingto grow and catching up to Adelaide. Soon we will see Hunter eat is very own mouse.
Hunters eyes are open and with the warm weather this weekend has been seen a lot more out in the open but still keeping close to momma and Adi.

Adelaide has been fun to watch, spending more time exploring with Hunter in tow.
Adelaide sure is a momma's child and Sydney loves to preen both Adi and Hunter.

Sydney took so several fly abouts last night. Here she sits in the tree, waiting to play with Mel. Sydney and Mel were seen flying from the trees and landing on the porch as Mel flew about and did a quick touch down to the backside of the porch.

Sydney has been getting restless and seems she can't wait to join the outside world. Within one hour she was in and out at least 3 times. Sitting on the roof or perch and then flying off to the greenbelt.
Treat Report: 5 treats delivered and consumed: 1st - slider 8:18pm (Adi gulp gone), 2nd huge gopher 9:39pm, 3rd - gopher 11:55, 4th - gopher 12:19am, 5th - gopher 12:52am.
