SNN (ScrollingNetworkNews) ✿ ✿ Our Mel and Sydney returned to their nesting box with plenty of bonding occurring..but after 2.5 months of Sydney in the box from Dec 2013 to mid Feb 2014, the lack of prey gifts from Mel ( perhaps due to the severe and historic drought underway in California)and they have forgone the nesting process this year as many other raptors ✿ Compared to other owls of similar size, the Barn Owl has a much higher metabolic rate, requiring relatively more food. Pound for pound, Barn Owls consume more rodents – often regarded as pests by humans – than possibly any other creature. ✿ We remind viewers that sometimes owlets may not survive - the parents will dispose of things in "The Owl Way" -viewer discretion is advised, this is nature and the "Owl way". ✿ ~ ✿ “Animals, like us, are living souls. They are not things. They are not objects. Neither are they human. Yet they mourn. They love. They dance. They suffer. They know the peaks and chasms of being.” ― Gary Kowalski, The Souls of Animals ✿ Each species is a masterpiece, a creation assembled with extreme care and genius." ~ E.O. Wilson

Adventures with Mel and Syd

Several milestones within the past few days: Adelaide & Hunter’s facial disks are forming, Both are moving around quite nicely, Adi standing, Adi’s pin feathers are visible on her wing tips, Adi continues to enjoy sliders.

Sydney 1st long flyabout 12:38 - 1:29am 51 minutes. While out she took a bath returning soak & wet. She now realizes she can leave the kids for longer stretches of time thus we will witness extended flyabouts. Her normal flyabouts have been noted as an average of 6 minutes.

On the left is the fan favorite capture of the night and is from tytolvr, she caught this capture right after Mel arrived with the first treat of the night. Adi seems to be smiling and happy she got to see her pops.

Treat Report: 4 treats delivered: 1st - Mouse Slider 8:25pm (Adi gulp gone), 2nd - Big Gopher 9:42pm that was shared between all 3 of them, Syndey was really hungry and fed off the gopher first before she fed the kids, both Adi and Hunter got their fair share, with Sydney looking on  she gave the head to Adi.
3rd - Gopher 1:43am, 4th - Gopher 2:46am
