SNN (ScrollingNetworkNews) ✿ ✿ Our Mel and Sydney returned to their nesting box with plenty of bonding occurring..but after 2.5 months of Sydney in the box from Dec 2013 to mid Feb 2014, the lack of prey gifts from Mel ( perhaps due to the severe and historic drought underway in California)and they have forgone the nesting process this year as many other raptors ✿ Compared to other owls of similar size, the Barn Owl has a much higher metabolic rate, requiring relatively more food. Pound for pound, Barn Owls consume more rodents – often regarded as pests by humans – than possibly any other creature. ✿ We remind viewers that sometimes owlets may not survive - the parents will dispose of things in "The Owl Way" -viewer discretion is advised, this is nature and the "Owl way". ✿ ~ ✿ “Animals, like us, are living souls. They are not things. They are not objects. Neither are they human. Yet they mourn. They love. They dance. They suffer. Adventures with Mel and Syd

Adi and Hunter get startled over the movement of Skamp the gopher

Yesterday we waited to see what would happen to Skamp the live Gopher. At 5:10pm Hunter found Skamp & kept it in his talons until he horked 5:24pm.

Adelaide being curious looked on taking notes for next time. Hunter finished
5:32pm earning him according to Kanga. “…his live prey boy scowlt badge.”

The previous night it rained critters, last night just 1 drop in the wee hours a gopher to Hunter 3:20am. While taking his time, Adi tried to steal but Hunter defended & eventually finished 3:30am.

1 Treat delivered: 3:20am a gopher to Hunter. Adi was seen with head out & talon on the door at 3:46am marking yet another milestone.
Adi is 44 days old and Hunter is 42 days old today. Average age of first exit out of the box is between day 50 - 60

Advisory to our sensitive viewers: This video contains real live scenes of an Owlet dispatching a live gopher.
