Adventures with Mel and Syd

Late evening the drought lifted & the sky opened. It wasn't the usual precipitation, but a rain of critters. Overnight deliveries observed: 2 rabbits, 4 gophers, 1 mouse for a total of 7.
Both Adi and Hunter enjoyed their first meals of the night together.
But something peculiar was observed with one of the gophers. It wasn't still but had life. Each time the gopher stirred, Adelaide & Hunter hissed, beak snapped & moved in unison.  It’s been fascinating to watch each in a one legged stance with heads bobbing & tilting left then right. In addition, Sydney was spotted in the tree several times overnight keeping watch & listening to her kidz.

Will Adi & Hunter finally figure out how to dispatch the gopher?  Will it perform a magic trick “The Great Escape”?

Over the weekend we got another view of what happens in Kangas yard with a song sparrow nest. The sparrow is along the side of his house, and not really visible from the wide expanse of the main yard and in a rose bush...

One chick and two eggs are in the nest but kanga isn't sure if the eggs are overdue to hatch or yet to hatch..

Thanks Robin from the SPO for capturing the video
