SNN (ScrollingNetworkNews) ✿ ✿ Our Mel and Sydney returned to their nesting box with plenty of bonding occurring..but after 2.5 months of Sydney in the box from Dec 2013 to mid Feb 2014, the lack of prey gifts from Mel ( perhaps due to the severe and historic drought underway in California)and they have forgone the nesting process this year as many other raptors ✿ Compared to other owls of similar size, the Barn Owl has a much higher metabolic rate, requiring relatively more food. Pound for pound, Barn Owls consume more rodents – often regarded as pests by humans – than possibly any other creature. ✿ We remind viewers that sometimes owlets may not survive - the parents will dispose of things in "The Owl Way" -viewer discretion is advised, this is nature and the "Owl way". ✿ ~ ✿ “Animals, like us, are living souls. They are not things. They are not objects. Neither are they human. Yet they mourn. They love. They dance. They suffer. They know the peaks and chasms of being.” ― Gary Kowalski, The Souls of Animals ✿ Each species is a masterpiece, a creation assembled with extreme care and genius." ~ E.O. Wilson

Adventures with Mel and Syd

Mel arrived with Sydney in tow 7:03pm. He stepped inside.  She stayed on the porch perch, and Mel beak snaps and sways
A 3rd Owl buzzed Syd but never came in contact with her.
She leaves one minute later. Mel immediately exited to the porch to assess the situation. Determining all is well, he stepped back inside 7:18. Was this 3rd owl another female or even a male owl vying for a female and nest for itself?

She flew down to the ground or fence 8:30, returned 8:42, took off to the Eucalyptus tree 10:00, landed on the roof 10:06 then departed to the greenbelt . Flyby 12:57am.

An owl landed did a touch & go landing on the playground 1:19am. It returned landing on roof 1:20.
It was Syd. She took off to the greenbelt 1:39 & returns 1:58.
After hours of being on the porch She gets the nerve to go inside to see Mel at 2:00am.
Then the inside

 camera went off.
ARG....... !
Viewers reported chitters & witnessed the box shaking 2:47am
(bonding). The inside camera came back on at 4:36am. What a beautiful sight to behold.
Our love Owls.
More bonding 5:08 & 6:23.
