SNN (ScrollingNetworkNews) ✿ ✿ Our Mel and Sydney returned to their nesting box with plenty of bonding occurring..but after 2.5 months of Sydney in the box from Dec 2013 to mid Feb 2014, the lack of prey gifts from Mel ( perhaps due to the severe and historic drought underway in California)and they have forgone the nesting process this year as many other raptors ✿ Compared to other owls of similar size, the Barn Owl has a much higher metabolic rate, requiring relatively more food. Pound for pound, Barn Owls consume more rodents – often regarded as pests by humans – than possibly any other creature. ✿ We remind viewers that sometimes owlets may not survive - the parents will dispose of things in "The Owl Way" -viewer discretion is advised, this is nature and the "Owl way". ✿ ~ ✿ “Animals, like us, are living souls. Adventures with Mel and Syd

The Kidz were fed approx 7:45pm.
Under the supervision of our raptor expert, several prey items were left on the porch.

Adelaide exited the box 9:25pm spotting a treat left on the porch but went back in leaving it there. Adi again exited, returning with no treat 11:10pm.

Adi exited a 3rd time but this time retrieved the treat 12:17am & placed it in the pantry. Adi stepped out then flew to the greenbelt 12:20am

He landed on the roof 1:57am then went straight up like the night before. We noticed him in the middle tree 2:53am. Adi returned to the porch 2:58am. It was cute to watch him flapping his wings.

Adi jumped to the playground 4:49am then to the porch 4:50am then back to the playground 4:57 moving all the way left as shown on Bev cam. He fixed his eyes on the Kastle roof then up and over he flew landing 5:09am & hopped down to the porch. He again jumped to the playground moving left 5:13am then flew to the Porch & in for the day 5:32am.
