SNN (ScrollingNetworkNews) ✿ ✿ Our Mel and Sydney returned to their nesting box with plenty of bonding occurring..but after 2.5 months of Sydney in the box from Dec 2013 to mid Feb 2014, the lack of prey gifts from Mel ( perhaps due to the severe and historic drought underway in California)and they have forgone the nesting process this year as many other raptors ✿ Compared to other owls of similar size, the Barn Owl has a much higher metabolic rate, requiring relatively more food. Pound for pound, Barn Owls consume more rodents – often regarded as pests by humans – than possibly any other creature. ✿ We remind viewers that sometimes owlets may not survive - the parents will dispose of things in "The Owl Way" -viewer discretion is advised, this is nature and the "Owl way". ✿ ~ ✿ “Animals, like us, are living souls. Adventures with Mel and Syd Welcomes Owlet Adelaide

The long wait is over. We can all breath again. Our first successful hatch of Clutch 3. Kanga chose a beautiful name for Mel & Sydney's owlet.
Adelaide (Adi).
She fully hatched 4/7 3:12am(see video below).
She is very strong and has already enjoyed her 1st meal. Syd is doing a wonderful job.
Mel & Sydney welcomed their owlet, Adi into the Kingdom of Kangadon.
Congratulations to all!

Name background: Adelaide the capital city of South Australia and the 5th-largest city in Australia. In addition, Adelaide as a girl's name is pronounced AD-a-layd. It is of Old German origin, and the meaning of Adelaide is "noble kind". First popular in England after the reign (1830-37) of William IV and Queen Adelaide. She was a German princess who accepted the young prince after he'd been turned down by seven other noble ladies. The city of Adelaide, Australia, founded in 1836, was named for her.

Overnight Delivery Report (ODR):
3 treats delivered to Sydney: 1st - gopher 11:13pm (½ in pantry),
2nd - gopher 2:51am (in pantry)
&

Mel arrived 4:01 with 3rd treat & handed it to Sydney. He noticed Adi’s empty shell, inspected it then tried to get a peek at his little owlet. We're not sure if he saw Adi but he had that proud papa look on his face when he turned around to face the camera. He stayed for 8 minutes departing 4:09.

Sydney sounded the breakfast bell at 7:24am & shredded. We witnessed Adi enjoying her 1st meal. Syd & Adi are doing well & resting in the Kastle.
