SNN (ScrollingNetworkNews) ✿ ✿ Our Mel and Sydney returned to their nesting box with plenty of bonding occurring..but after 2.5 months of Sydney in the box from Dec 2013 to mid Feb 2014, the lack of prey gifts from Mel ( perhaps due to the severe and historic drought underway in California)and they have forgone the nesting process this year as many other raptors ✿ Compared to other owls of similar size, the Barn Owl has a much higher metabolic rate, requiring relatively more food. Adventures with Mel & Syd

Syd left the box 8:28pm last night and soon after Chittering, deeting & screeching between Mel & Syd heard 8:33 which lasted close to 8 minutes.

Another Owl spotting at 11:18pm. Syd landed in her tree 11:35, stayed till 12:13am.  She landed on the box then flew to the trees 1:03. She took off at 1:44am
Sydney returned at 2:36am landing on the porch then hopped right in to join us for another day.
