SNN (ScrollingNetworkNews) ✿ ✿ Our Mel and Sydney returned to their nesting box with plenty of bonding occurring..but after 2.5 months of Sydney in the box from Dec 2013 to mid Feb 2014, the lack of prey gifts from Mel ( perhaps due to the severe and historic drought underway in California)and they have forgone the nesting process this year as many other raptors ✿ Compared to other owls of similar size, the Barn Owl has a much higher metabolic rate, requiring relatively more food. Pound for pound, Barn Owls consume more rodents – often regarded as pests by humans – than possibly any other creature. ✿ We remind viewers that sometimes owlets may not survive - the parents will dispose of things in "The Owl Way" -viewer discretion is advised, this is nature and the "Owl way". ✿ ~ ✿ “Animals, like us, are living souls. They are not things. They are not objects. Neither are they human. Yet they mourn. They love. They dance. They suffer. Adventures & NiteTime Antics w/Boomer

Boomer arrived back to her box at the usual time she usually departs it. Kids are funny.. when she is in the box , she cant wait to leave , but when they are out of the box, they cant wait to get back in it. She zoomed back in before it was really even that dark and promptly took to a nap before it was her time to start her food callings.
Mags was not seen at all and presumed to have fledged.

The silent arrival of another guest and box homeowner Sydney..
She stayed about 18 minutes inside the box where she dug around in the shag carpet and took a little nap, reclaiming her box after months of feeding her brood.
Welcome Home Sydney!

Sydney left when she heard Boomer approaching the box looking for her and demanding food.

Boomer gets 2 gopher treats last night, a Midnight snack and a early breakfast on the playground at 4:32am.
