SNN (ScrollingNetworkNews) ✿ ✿ Our Mel and Sydney returned to their nesting box with plenty of bonding occurring..but after 2.5 months of Sydney in the box from Dec 2013 to mid Feb 2014, the lack of prey gifts from Mel ( perhaps due to the severe and historic drought underway in California)and they have forgone the nesting process this year as many other raptors ✿ Compared to other owls of similar size, the Barn Owl has a much higher metabolic rate, requiring relatively more food. Are you ready to Rumbowl??

 We saw kicks and feathers fly as Mel flew into the owlbox and a second owl followed.. Mel was in the back of the box while the UFO was in the front entrance of the box.. Bill snapping happening as Mel threw the first kick to the other owl and landed it. Stare downs and stand off with squinted eyes.

This behavior of the other owl last night  was much different from the female in the box early Sunday morning who stood in the back of the box with shoulder wings up and scared.
Last nights owl was aggressive and combative. It’s very possible that the owl in the box last night with Mel was the male and mate to the female and trying to take over the nest box.
While the two were in the box a third owl was heard screeching from nearby. Its certainly a puzzle to figure out and something we will have to wait and see unfold.
Until then, we can only guess.

Later the female returned and waited for Mel to return or the third owl to join her. Mel came back where a fight broke out
