SNN (ScrollingNetworkNews) ✿ ✿ Our Mel and Sydney returned to their nesting box with plenty of bonding occurring..but after 2.5 months of Sydney in the box from Dec 2013 to mid Feb 2014, the lack of prey gifts from Mel ( perhaps due to the severe and historic drought underway in California)and they have forgone the nesting process this year as many other raptors ✿ Compared to other owls of similar size, the Barn Owl has a much higher metabolic rate, requiring relatively more food. Pound for pound, Barn Owls consume more rodents – often regarded as pests by humans – than possibly any other creature. ✿ We remind viewers that sometimes owlets may not survive - the parents will dispose of things in "The Owl Way" -viewer discretion is advised, this is nature and the "Owl way". ✿ ~ ✿ “Animals, like us, are living souls. Adventures with Mel and Syd

After spending an enjoyable day with the kidz (enjoyable that is for us viewers), Sydney left 8:03pm.
The 1st treat was delivered (below photo, shown arriving and leaving) 8:38pm a sm gopher to Hunter. He played with it then - then gulp gone.
Hunter is also the first of the owlets to have practiced the pounce.
So adorable!
Syd came in with the 2nd treat a bird (fling and fly)9:47pm which Adelaide took. It was awhile before she could gulp it since she needed to hork (cast a pellet). She kept it in the back hidden from Hunter, cast (hork) and then gulp it was gone!
3rd treat a medium critter 12:16am to Hunter & 4th treat 12:46am gopher to Adi. Heavy rains began 3:17am which may have halted critter hunting but not bird hunting. At 4:17am, Syd returned with the 5th treat, another bird.

Adi snatched the treat. Not wanting us to see her eat, she turned around and faced the right corner.  We asked her to show us what she was hiding but what she did was even funnier. She lifted her head & gave us the stink eye. Adi shredded a little then feet last - gulp gone.
5 Treats: 1st - Sm Gopher 8:38pm (Hunter), 2nd - Bird 9:47 (Adi), 3rd - Medium Treat 12:16am (Hunter), 4th - Gopher 12:46am (Adi), 5th - Bird 4:17am (Adi)
