SNN (ScrollingNetworkNews) ✿ ✿ Our Mel and Sydney returned to their nesting box with plenty of bonding occurring..but after 2.5 months of Sydney in the box from Dec 2013 to mid Feb 2014, the lack of prey gifts from Mel ( perhaps due to the severe and historic drought underway in California)and they have forgone the nesting process this year as many other raptors ✿ Compared to other owls of similar size, the Barn Owl has a much higher metabolic rate, requiring relatively more food. Pound for pound, Barn Owls consume more rodents – often regarded as pests by humans – than possibly any other creature. ✿ We remind viewers that sometimes owlets may not survive - the parents will dispose of things in "The Owl Way" -viewer discretion is advised, this is nature and the "Owl way". ✿ ~ ✿ “Animals, like us, are living souls. They are not things. They are not objects. Neither are they human. Yet they mourn. They love. They dance. They suffer. Adventures with Mel and Syd

Anticipation was building as night approached with the thought of a tasty dinner.
Adi wanted to be first in line and waited up by the magic hole in the door
Not to be left out, Hunter waited up front too.

Sydney delivered the 1st treat, a good size Rabbit 10:23pm. Hunter with outstretched wings charged to grab the treat but Adelaide out ran him.
It took a while but Adi figured out feet last-gulp gone.

Hearing a parent, anticipating a delivery & not to lose out to his sister, Hunter made a mad dash to the front & snatched the 2nd treat a gopher 12:00am. He’s a quick study. Kudos Hunter. Adi received the 3rd treat - another gopher 12:38am. While Adi was in a food coma, Mel arrived with the 4th treat approx 2:00am. Hunter quickly seized it before Adi had a chance to wake up An owl landed on the playground 3:00am. The kidz must have known it was one of their parents for they were not quiet. Today marks 3 out of 4 days the kidz are home alone.

*4 Treats: Adi 2 & Hunter 2, 1st - Med Rabbit 10:23p (Adi), 2nd - Gopher 12:00a (Hunter), 3rd - Gopher 12:38a (Adi), 4th - Mystery Treat 2:00a (Hunter)
