SNN (ScrollingNetworkNews) ✿ ✿ Our Mel and Sydney returned to their nesting box with plenty of bonding occurring..but after 2.5 months of Sydney in the box from Dec 2013 to mid Feb 2014, the lack of prey gifts from Mel ( perhaps due to the severe and historic drought underway in California)and they have forgone the nesting process this year as many other raptors ✿ Compared to other owls of similar size, the Barn Owl has a much higher metabolic rate, requiring relatively more food. Pound for pound, Barn Owls consume more rodents – often regarded as pests by humans – than possibly any other creature. ✿ We remind viewers that sometimes owlets may not survive - the parents will dispose of things in "The Owl Way" -viewer discretion is advised, this is nature and the "Owl way". ✿ ~ ✿ “Animals, like us, are living souls. Adventures with Mel and Syd

A warm day yesterday at the kastle and both Adi & Hauter did very well on their first day alone without mom Syd.

They lounged together most of the day..

and snacked on the leftover rabbit they had.

Hunter must have paid attention on the shredding lessons, he did well shredding and had many bites of it.

Sydney arrived 8:27pm with the 1st treat. She saw that the rabbit was still there (flat by then) and fed herself from it, she also shredded some and fed to the kids, Adi got the legs and gulped them down.. a look of pleasure on her face as they went down.

Three more treats were delivered for a grand total of four. Syd returned empty taloned 5:32am.The kidz expecting another treat went crazy nipping at her feet.

She did a pantry check. Hearing crows, she decided to spend the day. It looks like she visited the spa again for her feathers looked wet & her feet are clean.
