SNN (ScrollingNetworkNews) ✿ ✿ Our Mel and Sydney returned to their nesting box with plenty of bonding occurring..but after 2.5 months of Sydney in the box from Dec 2013 to mid Feb 2014, the lack of prey gifts from Mel ( perhaps due to the severe and historic drought underway in California)and they have forgone the nesting process this year as many other raptors ✿ Compared to other owls of similar size, the Barn Owl has a much higher metabolic rate, requiring relatively more food. Adventures with Mel and Syd

Sydney returns from her flyabout. Congrats FFN winner shockwave326 for Sydney 7:49p

JUST THE FACTS: Mel delivered 3 Treats to Sydney: 1st - gopher 8:05pm swallowed immediately, 2nd - gopher 10:23pm consumed & 3rd - gopher 1:05am place in front pantry later shredded & gulped down.


 Mel landed on the roof 8:19, entered the kastle 8:21, bonded & left. Sydney went for another flyabout 3:03am.

While she was out, Mel returned landing on the roof stack 3:05. Syd flew by as seen BEV cam then landed on the roof just above the door. They talked briefly. Maybe she gave him her dessert order?

Mel took of flying to the far end of the playground & turned around to watch Syd go in to tend to their eggs 3:06. He stayed for 4 more minutes before departing 3:10. Syd opened the front pantry & retrieved treat #3 3:21. She shredded & gulped it down finishing 3:29.
