SNN (ScrollingNetworkNews) ✿ ✿ Our Mel and Sydney returned to their nesting box with plenty of bonding occurring..but after 2.5 months of Sydney in the box from Dec 2013 to mid Feb 2014, the lack of prey gifts from Mel ( perhaps due to the severe and historic drought underway in California)and they have forgone the nesting process this year as many other raptors ✿ Compared to other owls of similar size, the Barn Owl has a much higher metabolic rate, requiring relatively more food. Pound for pound, Barn Owls consume more rodents – often regarded as pests by humans – than possibly any other creature. ✿ We remind viewers that sometimes owlets may not survive - the parents will dispose of things in "The Owl Way" -viewer discretion is advised, this is nature and the "Owl way". ✿ ~ ✿ “Animals, like us, are living souls. They are not things. They are not objects. Neither are they human. Yet they mourn. They love. They dance. They suffer. Adventures with Mel and Syd

Sydney

Sydney left on her FFN 8:43pm leaving many viewers to egg sit while she was gone, she returned a short four minutes later

Mel arrived at 9:29pm with a small mousie slider, he quickly said hello and out the door he went.

At 10:31pm Mel returned with a larger treat, this must have been the main course, a larger gopher! Again Mel was in and out like a flash.

Mel returned 2:58am schlepping another gopher. Syd deposited the treat in the back left pantry. She stretched then exited for a flyabout 3:33.

Both flew by deeting & playing 3:35 and then the boom cam shook indicating someone landed on it 3:36.
Syd returned to her eggs 3:39. Boom cam shook again 3:40 as Mel took off to the greenbelt. He flew by 4:08.
Syd horked 4:52.

With her tummy now emptied, she grabbed the treat from the pantry 5:03am, downsized it a bit then scarfed it down 5:10am.
Sydney was fed well !
