SNN (ScrollingNetworkNews) ✿ ✿ Our Mel and Sydney returned to their nesting box with plenty of bonding occurring..but after 2.5 months of Sydney in the box from Dec 2013 to mid Feb 2014, the lack of prey gifts from Mel ( perhaps due to the severe and historic drought underway in California)and they have forgone the nesting process this year as many other raptors ✿ Compared to other owls of similar size, the Barn Owl has a much higher metabolic rate, requiring relatively more food. Pound for pound, Barn Owls consume more rodents – often regarded as pests by humans – than possibly any other creature. ✿ We remind viewers that sometimes owlets may not survive - the parents will dispose of things in "The Owl Way" -viewer discretion is advised, this is nature and the "Owl way". ✿ ~ ✿ “Animals, like us, are living souls. Adventures with Mel and Syd

After spending the day together Mel & Sydney left on their 1st flyabout 8:48pm, 8:49 respectively.
She returned shortly afterwards, he returned with treat (gopher) 9:54pm, bonded then left.

Owl landing on playground at 10:39pm but was it Mel?

Sydney did not have her usual reaction when Mel is around by squawking and seemed to be on alert.
She flew out of the box where the owl bonded with her.

Another landing on the playground and then a hop to the box porch (again no squawking by Sydney as she does when Mel is there) then the owl entered the box and bonded with Syd at 12:49am.

Sydney tried to kick the owl out of her nest with some close up tussling in the front of the camera It stepped out approx 1:10ish, went back in but this time Syd would not let it bond.
The 3rd owl tried to steal her treat. Syd gulped it down 2:38.

Mel was startled when he returned home with a treat. The 3rd owl was in the box. Mel landed then the 3rd owl lunged at him (see video). Now where did that treat go? It is currently dangling off the porch as seen on boom cam.
