SNN (ScrollingNetworkNews) ✿ ✿ Our Mel and Sydney returned to their nesting box with plenty of bonding occurring..but after 2.5 months of Sydney in the box from Dec 2013 to mid Feb 2014, the lack of prey gifts from Mel ( perhaps due to the severe and historic drought underway in California)and they have forgone the nesting process this year as many other raptors ✿ Compared to other owls of similar size, the Barn Owl has a much higher metabolic rate, requiring relatively more food. Pound for pound, Barn Owls consume more rodents – often regarded as pests by humans – than possibly any other creature. ✿ We remind viewers that sometimes owlets may not survive - the parents will dispose of things in "The Owl Way" -viewer discretion is advised, this is nature and the "Owl way". ✿ ~ ✿ “Animals, like us, are living souls. They are not things. They are not objects. Neither are they human. Yet they mourn. They love. They dance. They suffer. Adventures with Mel and Syd

                                   3rd owl on rooftop
Last night started off quite interesting. Mel & Sydney were relaxing in the Kastle then out of nowhere landed the 3rd owl on the roof 7:04pm. M&S both gave chase returning 1 minute later & bonded. The night was full of passion. Those 2 weren't shy in expressing how they feel about one other. Everywhere you looked bonding inside the Kastle, on the porch & on the roof.

We witnessed our 1st treat delivery 4:23am.
(see video below)
Both were on flyabout. Mel returned 1st with a treat in beak. Syd was right behind him. He dropped the treat. They bonded. Syd picked up the treat to put in the pantry. Mel snatched the treat then flew off with it 4:27. He returned 4:29 with the same treat in beak to properly hand it off to her (1st regift too LOL). They bonded. Syd placed the treat in the pantry. Mel went on several last minute flyabouts before returning for the day 5:59.

Both are here again making this 3 days in a row.
