SNN (ScrollingNetworkNews) ✿ ✿ Our Mel and Sydney returned to their nesting box with plenty of bonding occurring..but after 2.5 months of Sydney in the box from Dec 2013 to mid Feb 2014, the lack of prey gifts from Mel ( perhaps due to the severe and historic drought underway in California)and they have forgone the nesting process this year as many other raptors ✿ Compared to other owls of similar size, the Barn Owl has a much higher metabolic rate, requiring relatively more food. Adventures with Mel and Syd

We had a owl show up last night 11:33pm -11:40pm OBT and even tho the owl went in the box, no positive ID on this owl.
We could only speculate , some say it was a young owl but with so much movement from the owl, its really hard to say if it was one of ours or not.

Some have asked if this was a box take over, would Mel or Sydney not fight for their box?

Truth is we have seen at another box that was taken over by a new couple a few years ago with out any kind of "Fighting" for it and the only way any kind of fighting would happen for this box is if we had a owl already in the box and nesting was going on inside or if courtship was in progress.
