SNN (ScrollingNetworkNews) ✿ ✿ Our Mel and Sydney returned to their nesting box with plenty of bonding occurring..but after 2.5 months of Sydney in the box from Dec 2013 to mid Feb 2014, the lack of prey gifts from Mel ( perhaps due to the severe and historic drought underway in California)and they have forgone the nesting process this year as many other raptors ✿ Compared to other owls of similar size, the Barn Owl has a much higher metabolic rate, requiring relatively more food. Pound for pound, Barn Owls consume more rodents – often regarded as pests by humans – than possibly any other creature. ✿ We remind viewers that sometimes owlets may not survive - the parents will dispose of things in "The Owl Way" -viewer discretion is advised, this is nature and the "Owl way". ✿ ~ ✿ “Animals, like us, are living souls. They are not things. They are not objects. Neither are they human. Yet they mourn. They love. They dance. They suffer. Adventures with Mel and Sydney

Once night fall came around (5:41-5:43pm), viewers could hear distant then close screeches, off camera we thought we could hear beak snapping before his arrival at 5:44pm.

He entered the Kastle chittering & moved to the back beak snapping & huffing.
He moved to the front looking for Sydney & spotted her flying by 5:53.

Mel stepped out a 9:23p, looked around several times then flew off 9:24p. Screeches heard 12:36a & 12:46 before a brief stopped over from M or S 12:49. Screech 12:52 & chittering 1:10 heard. Sydney landed on the porch 1:12. She stayed till Mel arrived 1:56.
Wait Mel came back immediately 1:57 chittering as he entered the Kastle.
He fell asleep to the sound of falling rain. As the rain continued Mel wanting to be with his sweetie decided to make a mad dash out 4:44. We spotted him around the back of the Kastle. Screech heard 4:46 then incoming deets another porch landing 4:53. Mel entered again with deeting. Syd’s screech heard 4:54. He left deeting in search of Syd.
His deets continued till Syd’s porch landing 4:57.
She took off with a departing screech 5:13.
