SNN (ScrollingNetworkNews) ✿ ✿ Our Mel and Sydney returned to their nesting box with plenty of bonding occurring..but after 2.5 months of Sydney in the box from Dec 2013 to mid Feb 2014, the lack of prey gifts from Mel ( perhaps due to the severe and historic drought underway in California)and they have forgone the nesting process this year as many other raptors ✿ Compared to other owls of similar size, the Barn Owl has a much higher metabolic rate, requiring relatively more food. Adventures with Mel and Syd

Viewers took such delight watching Mel yesterday and some may have even got to see their first HORK.

Shortly after dark Mel started deeting for his sweetie Sydney 5:25pm.
A distant screech alerted Mel to her presence 5:35. A split second later she landed on the playground.
Mel emerged from the Kastle roughly the same time.
They flew off at5:39pm.

Catching us all off guard Mel returned to the nest at 5:56.

Knowing Mel will be hunting for her in the near future Syd gave him the night off. He stayed in, preening & napping resting up for the days to come.
A first that we have seen was when Mel decided instead of flying off for a nature break, he backed up then squirted near the front door just like an owlet.

 Aww Mel you’re too cute!‎ ♥

Not even Syd’s distant deeting & screeching heard 5:01 & 5:02 could entice Mel from leaving the Kastle today.
Loving all the attention he received yesterday from us viewers, we get to spend Day 2 with the handsome Mel.
Now this is something we can get so use to!
