SNN (ScrollingNetworkNews) ✿ ✿ Our Mel and Sydney returned to their nesting box with plenty of bonding occurring..but after 2.5 months of Sydney in the box from Dec 2013 to mid Feb 2014, the lack of prey gifts from Mel ( perhaps due to the severe and historic drought underway in California)and they have forgone the nesting process this year as many other raptors ✿ Compared to other owls of similar size, the Barn Owl has a much higher metabolic rate, requiring relatively more food. Screech owl

This Eastern Screech Owl red phase was brought to a care center after someone found it caught tangled in the net of deer fencing by its left foot/leg.

The foot was quite swollen and bruised. He was also too underweight and weak to be safely sedated for a x-ray.

Over the past week he has gained weight and become more active, so this Screech Owl will be going to the vet tomorrow for a x-ray of his foot. This will give them a better idea of the full damage to his foot, hopefully with some rest and good food he will heal and be released
