SNN (ScrollingNetworkNews) ✿ ✿ Our Mel and Sydney returned to their nesting box with plenty of bonding occurring..but after 2.5 months of Sydney in the box from Dec 2013 to mid Feb 2014, the lack of prey gifts from Mel ( perhaps due to the severe and historic drought underway in California)and they have forgone the nesting process this year as many other raptors ✿ Compared to other owls of similar size, the Barn Owl has a much higher metabolic rate, requiring relatively more food. Pound for pound, Barn Owls consume more rodents – often regarded as pests by humans – than possibly any other creature. ✿ We remind viewers that sometimes owlets may not survive - the parents will dispose of things in "The Owl Way" -viewer discretion is advised, this is nature and the "Owl way". ✿ ~ ✿ “Animals, like us, are living souls. Adventures With Mel & Syd

Mel returned to the area 9:44pm, stayed out of view & screeched. Syd answered, “Sorry sweetie, not ready yet. Need another ½ hour.”  Sydney left the box  at 10:11pm , sits on the porch enjoying the cooled off night air after the hot hot day inside, she flies off at 10:15pm.
Deets heard 11:19 & 11:34.

A touch and go Syd landed on the porch, then flew to her favorite tree spot 11:36 then took off 11:44pm.

 4:01am SYD ARRIVED WITH A TREAT in her mouth, its a ROUS! (rodent of unusual size)

She landed on the porch, brought it in & placed it back in the right side of the pantry.
Syd heard something & left in a hurry 5:32am. She returned 6:01 landing on the porch, THUD & in. She’s keeping the ROUS company today.
