SNN (ScrollingNetworkNews) ✿ ✿ Our Mel and Sydney returned to their nesting box with plenty of bonding occurring..but after 2.5 months of Sydney in the box from Dec 2013 to mid Feb 2014, the lack of prey gifts from Mel ( perhaps due to the severe and historic drought underway in California)and they have forgone the nesting process this year as many other raptors ✿ Compared to other owls of similar size, the Barn Owl has a much higher metabolic rate, requiring relatively more food. Adventures With Mel & Syd

Syd almost topples over in her deep sleep
 Syd stepped out 7:44pm. She let out a loud screech 7:50pm then off to find Mel.  Screech heard in the distance 8:15.
Deets heard 8:44. Owl landed in the  tree & 2nd owl flysby. Both struck up a conversation 8:48.



Mel & Sydney both flew to the kastle & went in 8:58pm, had a stare down.

Some chitterings here but no kissy face.
They stayed 2 minutes before heading off again.
They then left 9:00pm to the trees.




 Thud, Syd landed on the porch 3:22am, entered & relaxed.
Mel arrived at the Kastle 4:12 & entered straight away. Syd hissed then both chittered. She kept her eyes on him while he stared out the door. Mel left 4:18 for the trees then the area 4:25am.
