SNN (ScrollingNetworkNews) ✿ ✿ Our Mel and Sydney returned to their nesting box with plenty of bonding occurring..but after 2.5 months of Sydney in the box from Dec 2013 to mid Feb 2014, the lack of prey gifts from Mel ( perhaps due to the severe and historic drought underway in California)and they have forgone the nesting process this year as many other raptors ✿ Compared to other owls of similar size, the Barn Owl has a much higher metabolic rate, requiring relatively more food. WORLD OF HUMMINGBIRDS Update

It's with a truly saddened heart that I must report Phil and Mia's passing during the night last night.  They were still in a very early, critical time of their lives and upon further examination, appear to not have been developing quite as they should have for their ages. This is so disappointing but at the same time I feel a sense of peace that they were given a fighting chance. Without some help from Emma, they would have had NO chance and surely died. They all did everything they could. What they learned in these past four days gave them abundant, unprecedented research information that will save COUNTLESS hummers for the rest of time. ♥ RIP sweet little Phil and precious little Mia. You were loved abundantly from the moment we saw you -- thank you for what you left us. ♥
