SNN (ScrollingNetworkNews) ✿ ✿ Our Mel and Sydney returned to their nesting box with plenty of bonding occurring..but after 2.5 months of Sydney in the box from Dec 2013 to mid Feb 2014, the lack of prey gifts from Mel ( perhaps due to the severe and historic drought underway in California)and they have forgone the nesting process this year as many other raptors ✿ Compared to other owls of similar size, the Barn Owl has a much higher metabolic rate, requiring relatively more food. Its all about Maggie

Maggie gets her own whole prey three times.  Gulp! Burpet..

Later in the night, Maggie's 3rd whole prey - well sorta whole

Mel proved last night that he is and always be a mighty hunter, hauling in 7 treats to Sydney's one,
(yes she hunted again) for a total of 8 treats for the midnight to midnight treat count.
All babies well fed and doing well.

Mel makes another 2 deliveries after midnight to start the new count.
No this isn't the same picture night after night of Mel.. Same pose diff night
