SNN (ScrollingNetworkNews) ✿ ✿ Our Mel and Sydney returned to their nesting box with plenty of bonding occurring..but after 2.5 months of Sydney in the box from Dec 2013 to mid Feb 2014, the lack of prey gifts from Mel ( perhaps due to the severe and historic drought underway in California)and they have forgone the nesting process this year as many other raptors ✿ Compared to other owls of similar size, the Barn Owl has a much higher metabolic rate, requiring relatively more food. Pound for pound, Barn Owls consume more rodents – often regarded as pests by humans – than possibly any other creature. ✿ We remind viewers that sometimes owlets may not survive - the parents will dispose of things in "The Owl Way" -viewer discretion is advised, this is nature and the "Owl way". ✿ ~ ✿ “Animals, like us, are living souls. They are not things. They are not objects. Neither are they human. Yet they mourn. They love. They dance. They suffer. They know the peaks and chasms of being.” ― Gary Kowalski, The Souls of Animals ✿ Each species is a masterpiece, a creation assembled with extreme care and genius." ~ E.O. Wilson

Early Morning Antics..

Cameras came back on at 1:37am and much surprised that Mel was still inside taking his long winter nap. At 3:30am Mel woke up and loud deeted called and an owl showed up to the playground, we could see the owl on our New “Bev” cam sitting on the playground and taunting Mel to either leave the box or come out to play.
Mel seemed to be little agitated yet cautious with the owl outside and did do some bill snapping and some snorting, what this means we do not really know.
Who this other owl is, that we do not know either, so it will be refereed to as a UFO (Unfamiliar Owl).

I think back to when Roy from the Roy and Dale “Hideout” box was looking for a mate and his callings brought three different suitor owls to his box before he chose the second Dale and current resident owl to their box.
Q: What does “Bev” stand for?  Bev is another one of chat rooms new acronyms “Birds Eye View” The Bev cam will give us all an exciting view when future owlets start the branching and flappersize process, it should be fun!.
