SNN (ScrollingNetworkNews) ✿ ✿ Our Mel and Sydney returned to their nesting box with plenty of bonding occurring..but after 2.5 months of Sydney in the box from Dec 2013 to mid Feb 2014, the lack of prey gifts from Mel ( perhaps due to the severe and historic drought underway in California)and they have forgone the nesting process this year as many other raptors ✿ Compared to other owls of similar size, the Barn Owl has a much higher metabolic rate, requiring relatively more food. Pound for pound, Barn Owls consume more rodents – often regarded as pests by humans – than possibly any other creature. ✿ We remind viewers that sometimes owlets may not survive - the parents will dispose of things in "The Owl Way" -viewer discretion is advised, this is nature and the "Owl way". ✿ ~ ✿ “Animals, like us, are living souls. They are not things. They are not objects. Neither are they human. Yet they mourn. They love. They dance. They suffer. They know the peaks and chasms of being.” ― Gary Kowalski, The Souls of Animals ✿ Each species is a masterpiece, a creation assembled with extreme care and genius." ~ E.O. Wilson

Twitter made simple

Many questions have been asked about our new twitter page and what it's for and what you do with it. Do you want to follow melandsydney on twitter but aren't sure how it all works?
Here’s a quick introduction :

1.  You can set up your twitter page with either your real name or chatter username, whichever you prefer.
2.   Once you have done this we would recommend you select "protect your tweets". This makes your profile private and only followers you approve can see your profile and tweets
3. When you have a safe and secure profile set up, you can then request to follow melandsydney. They will approve your request ASAP.
4. M&S's profile is not open for all to see; it is locked to the general public and is viewable for approved followers only, so you need to create an account / page for yourself first.

Twitter can be described as a mini blogging service,  a short and sweet ‘deet’ rather ‘tweet’ of 140 characters or less is posted with updates. Mel and Syd's page will be updated as often as possible and probably many times daily when they return to the box. You will be able to see times and numbers of delivered treats and also keep an eye on egg hatching status. All these precious moments will be documented as a timeline for us to follow, just in case you can't be at your computer 24/7.
If you're game and rather technological, you can set up twitter to send you an alert to your cell or smart phone when a new “deet tweet” is posted or have them sent via email.
Come deet your tweet to Mel & Syd today!
